Account Level vs. Space Level
A team invitation (Team page) grants access to the entire account and optionally to a Space. An editor occupies one slot in your plan.
Adding an existing person to a Space (under Members in Space settings) only adds them to that single Space - without using up an additional seat.
Rule of thumb:
broader access → Team
direct access to a single Space → Members in Space settings.
